Home to some of the most iconic and historical sites in the world, Cambodia 2015 provided our students with the opportunity to experience a very different culture and lifestyle, and perform worthwhile Community Service.
One of the main reasons for the trip was to work at the Treak Village Community Centre and school. During our 2 days there, students build brick walls, prepared reinforcement for concrete pours, painted buildings, worked in the classrooms, and enjoyed playing with the local children.
Part of the preparation for this part of the trip was to carry out fundraising. Thank you to Mr Rod Knowles and his Year 10 Event Management Elective class for raising over $1700.
The remaining funds were provided by the 24 travelling students who were required to raise $100 each from sponsorships. We recognise the donations from Black Range Business Group (via the Durston family) and the French Language teaching company (via Valerie Hickey), along with all the other families that donated.
Finally, it is important to highlight the exceptional behaviour, attitude and effort of every student who participated. The climate made working and visiting sites quite difficult. But there was never a complaint, and in fact we received many compliments throughout the whole journey from a variety of people we came across.
