On the last day of term 1, our Middle School students had a colour run and fundraiser for the Kyneton Caring Community; a local organisation that runs a registered food bank and op shop to support community members and families in need. The Kyneton Caring Community help over 750 people in the Macedon Ranges.
Students donated a variety of products, with each class being given a specific product to collect. Their donations included products ranging from toothbrushes and toothpaste, pasta, sauces, soap, water bottles, etc.
Students also donated a gold coin each on the last day of term so that they could come dressed in casual clothes and participate in the Colour Run. The money raised from the Colour Run was divided between the World’s Greatest Shave Leukaemia Foundation and Camp Quality, who visited to perform a puppet show earlier in the week for our Grade 6 students. In addition to the group fundraising efforts, we had a number of students raise money and shave their heads as part of the World’s Greatest Shave campaign.
We were very lucky to have one of our Year 8 students, Rueben Pitt, speak at assembly about his personal journey with leukaemia and help to express to our Braemar community how much the funds raised will help young people with cancer. Rueben and his family had been on camps with Camp Quality while he had been having treatment so he was able to share a first-hand account of their positive impact.
Well done and thank you to all of our students who were involved for contributing to your community and such a worthy cause.
