Our Year 5 students enjoyed their trip to Sovereign Hill last week based around the 1850s Gold Rush.
Over the course of the 3 day camp, students visited the Made Museum of Australian Democracy in Ballarat, and learnt about the Eureka Flag and the Eureka Stockade as part of their Encounter studies.
Students loved the experience, particularly dressing up in the clothes of the times, and being part of the living museum at Sovereign Hill.
They attended four different 1850s schools, playing the part of students while visitors looked on.
Students also visited the Blood on the Southern Cross light and sound show.
Apart from gold panning, they said that the thing they liked most was being part of the living museum and dressing up.
