Calling Young Writers

To celebrate National Youth Week in April, Goldfield’s Library has a number of opportunities for enthusiastic young writers.

WRITING COMPETITION

Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 3.54.26 PMThe ‘Flash300’ Flash Fiction Writing Competition will kick off on Monday 11 April and offers the opportunity to get published and win great prizes. A selection of high quality entries will be included in an anthology which will be made available through Goldfields Libraries.

As the name suggests, the Flash300 competition has a limit of 300 words with a theme of “Betrayal”. The competition is open to 13-18 year olds and closes on Monday 6 June.

Those needing to shake off writer’s block and find some inspiration need not worry, local published author Christie Nieman will be facilitating two Flash Fiction Writing workshops to get you started. The Bendigo Library workshop is on Monday 11 April, and the Castlemaine Library workshop is on Wednesday 13 April. Places are limited and bookings are required.

CREATE YOUR OWN MEME

Screen Shot 2016-04-03 at 3.28.15 PMGrumpy Cat fans will be excited to know that Meme Craft is coming to Bendigo and Woodend Libraries! Pick your favourite image and create your own meme, then turn it into a unique badge or bag. Sessions are on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 April.
