Congratulations to Tom Riley in Year 12 who has been awarded the Australian Defence Force Academy Education Award.
Only 100 students across Australia receive the award each year.
To be eligible, Year 12 students must be applying for the Army, Navy or Airforce the following year.
Tom has undergone medicals, psychological evaluations, aptitude tests, careers counselling and panel interviews.
He says that the process has helped him identify and focus on what he wants to do as a career, and Tom has applied to become a Maritime Warfare Officer specialising in Meteorology.
He says as well as the testing and interviews, it has involved a lot of discussion with his parents and they have provided great support.
Tom has enjoyed the opportunities for self-development, teamwork and leadership that Cadets have provided him with.
His advice to anyone considering a career in the Defence Forces is, “Explore your options. There are lots of different positions within the Defence Force that you might not even know existed.”
Tom was presented with his award today by Navy Lieutenant Cris White.
Tom suggests that if you are considering this kind of career, you should hop onto the Defence Force website .
