IMG_0332Approximately eighty students in Year 5 to Year 9 attended to discuss the inequalities in the world and how they as individuals can make a difference.

IMG_0337The Kids View Conference was sponsored by BTPA in partnership with Bahay Tuluyan (House of Welcome). Bahay Tuluyan works with children who need someone to care for them. Their aim is to give children a chance to live a good life and achieve their dreams.

IMG_0339Each year they sponsor two youth children’s rights advocates from the Philippines to travel to Australia. While here, they share their stories and experiences with school groups and other community members – providing a glimpse into the realities of life in a developing country. The young people are inspiring and active leaders in Bahay Tuluyan’s programs, help other children in need and generously share their stories to help raise awareness of the plight of street children worldwide.

The highlight for many of our students was hearing the stories of these advocates, Madel and Lorenzo from the Philippines about how they have survived and overcome the odds.

The conferences, which has direct links to AusVELS, allowed students to learn more about social justice issues.
