Braemar College – Help Our Basketballers Get to the USA

Twenty-four Braemar College students will travel to the USA at the end of the year to compete in basketball games in Austin Texas, and New York City.

While in the USA, students will visit universities and Disneyland, and experience NBA , NFL and ice hockey games.

IMG_0843Our basketball players will stay with host families of high school students. They will play up to six games and a tournament, travelling over 5,500 kilometres across America.

The three week trip is a once in a lifetime cultural and sporting experience where our students learn about life and possible career opportunities in the US, and act as overseas ambassadors for Braemar College, attending schools and talking about living and learning in Australia.

Students will be accompanied by their two long time coaches, (Braemar Old Collegians Henry Street and Jordan Little), two staff members and a number of parents.

IMG_0844Students have been working hard for the trip, raising funds through raffles and sausage sizzles.

Next Saturday they will be selling Mother’s Day raffle tickets all day outside IGA.

Other planned events include a Father’s Day sausage sizzle at Bunnings, and a PAC Day sausage sizzle.

The boys are running two basketball clinics over the break at Woodend and Gisborne for the local community, and continue to hone their skills, playing in a team on a Wednesday night with the Sunbury Basketball association.

Hard working fundraising co-ordinators for our US basketball players are Mandy Dimasi, Kaye Eyles and Claudia Lowe.
