Braemar College recently celebrated Book Week, an initiative of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA).
The theme for Book Week 2014 was ‘Connect to Reading’, all about enjoying the experience of exploring story, and travelling to other worlds.
Braemar College held a range of activities across the year levels.
Year 5 and 6 students read all the CBCA shortlisted picture books. They voted for their favourite.
The judges choice was The Rules of Summer by Shaun Tan. The Year 5 and 6 choice was The Windy Farm by Doug Macleod.
Students entered a quiz based on Children’s Book Week. The winner was Henry Wilcox, and runners up were Natasha Miller and James Howarth.
The most popular Book Week lunch time activity was making balloon animals, objects and shapes.
Students also worked on a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle that our puzzle enthusiasts are determined to complete.
There were also craft maker boxes, and students made poppies for ANZAC Day next year, and animals featured in Nick Bland’s, King Pig book.
Staff Quiz winners were Mr Scott Murray and Mr Steve Hanlon.
A special feature of this year’s Book Week display was a fabulous picture by parent artist, Anna Scheen.
